Police Calls For Vigilance: Latest Road Fatalities Involve Children

The Fiji Police Force is calling on parents and guardians to closely monitor their children during the current school holiday.
Over the weekend, two children died in two separate road accidents and Police said the importance of supervision should be reinforced.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Abdul Khan, said the first accident recorded last Friday involved an eight-year-old boy who was allegedly bumped by a vehicle driven by a 25-year old labourer of Vunika, Labasa.
The tragedy occurred in Delailabasa.
The accused has been charged with one count of dangerous driving occasioning death and bailed for the sum of $1,000.
The other accident involved a six-year-old child being bumped by a vehicle driven by a 48-year old man in Yaroi, Savusavu on Saturday morning.
ACP Khan said the victim was crossing the road when the alleged incident occurred.
ACP Khan has called on drivers to be alert to the movement of children on roads countrywide.
Meanwhile, the current road death toll stands at 43 compared to 25 for the same period last year.
