Bainimarama Is Still Prime Minister: Sayed-Khaiyum.

Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama is still the Prime Minister of Fiji, says FijiFirst general secretary, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum in a press conference today.
This is despite congratulatory message on Twitter from New Zealand’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Nanaia Mahuta.
He said Ministers still hold their portfolios, adding that the new government would only assume office when voted in by members of Parliament during its first sitting.
“They are still in office as per the Fijian Constitution and they continue with those offices,” he said.
He said there were politicians who were trying to mislead Fijians about the processes involved in electing a prime minister.
“After the general election, if no one political party has won more than 50 per cent of the total number of seats in Parliament then at the first sitting of parliament, the speaker must call for nominations from members of Parliament,” he said.
“And if only one person is nominated and seconded then that person assume office as prime minister.”
