RFMF Called In Amidst Growing Concerns of Racial Tension: Qiliho

The Republic of the Fiji Military Forces has agreed to assist the Fiji Police Force in maintaining law and order amidst growing concerns of racial tension.
Following a meeting with the Police and the Minister of Defence and National Security, Inia Seruiratu, today, the agreement was made in spite of more information and reports received by Police.
Commissioner of Police, Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho, said it was a consensus decision based on official reports received.
He said intelligence and information gathered followed by an evaluation of the current security landscape, the minority groups continued to be targeted.
“The continuous attacks on minority groups has aggravated the current tense situation,” he said.
Brigadier-General Qiliho said they have received information of planned civil unrest.
“I also reiterate my earlier call for social media users to be mindful and aware of the implications their posts are having on the overall security landscape,” he said.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abdul Khan, will be collaborating with the RFMF to ensure the safety and security of all Fijians as we see through the current political process as Police continues to lead this operation.
