Former sports editor and columnist Kameli Rakoko passed away at his home in Kinoya on Tuesday afternoon.

Rakoko, 65 was not only a gifted writer but also a good rugby players having represented Nadroga.

The former Ratu Kadavulevu School student is known for his insightful and descriptive sports pieces.

Rakoko started his journalism journey with the old Fiji Sun newspaper before it closed down after the first military coup in 1986.

He was one of the pioneers of the Daily Post where he was sports editor before joining the Fiji Times as a columnist.

According to his only son Josateki Kunaluveya, funeral gathering started yesterday at their family home in Kinoya.

His body will be taken down to his village in Rukurukulevu, Nadroga on Saturday morning for burial.

Rakoko is survived by his wife Walesi, their four children Losalini, Perina, Torika and Josateki and six grandchildren.
