There will only be three school terms this academic year instead of four.

The Ministry of Education made this decision today and set the school commencement date to February 6 from January 30.

Line minister, Aseri Radrodro, said teachers would still have to resume official duties on January 30.

Ministry workers who are near retirement age will continue employment until 60 years.

Line ministries and stakeholders will be consulted on the re-engagement of school chaplains in schools for spiritual guidance.

“The cost of maintaining such school Chaplains is expected to be co-shared by the Government,” a statement from the ministry said.

The ministry is urging parents and guardians to supervise their children during this school holiday and be vigilant on their whereabouts as bad weather continues to affect the country.
