The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has commenced their back-to- school enforcement activities as the new academic year is around the corner.

FCCC’s enforcement teams are on the ground closely monitoring the prices of school supplies, doing market surveys and conducting inspections.

“A targeted risk-based approach has been employed with 77 inspections conducted across a range of businesses to gather baseline data for effective enforcement. This is to ensure that traders do not engage in price gauging or unfair trade practices given the $200 per child assistance initiative by the government.”

“Many businesses will be having a sale or discount benefits for their customers, and we urge consumers to verify prices and condition of the school supplies before purchasing. Any trader found of unscrupulous trading will be dealt with by the Commission,” commented FCCC CEO, Joel Abraham.

During this peak shopping season, consumers are encouraged to be vigilant and report any issues of suspected non-compliance. The enforcement activities are targeted to ensure that traders are in compliance with the FCCC Act 2010 and consumers are treated fairly during this peak back-to-school shopping season.

FCCC also encourages consumers to continue practising your consumer rights and responsibilities to avoid any conflicts and disappointments.
