It costs $500 million for the Government to conduct screening and treatment for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) every year.
But around 80 per cent of people still die from NCDs.
The high rate of fatality shocked participants of a round-table discussion organised by the French Embassy.
The Ministry of Health chief dietitian, Ateca Kama, said around 85 per cent of Fiji’s population were consuming unhealthy diets.
