Rabuka Leaves Fiji For Kiribati Today

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka is due to arrive in Kiribati today.
Mr Rabuka will be traveling with ten delegates on an Australian chartered aircraft.
“I was invited, and it’s a better time for me to go. There are some fractures in the Pacific Islands Forum with the Micronesian countries,” Mr Rabuka said.
Kiribati withdrew from the Pacific Islands Forum in July last year, citing inconsistency in the forum to address some of their matters.
Mr Rabuka in his capacity as chairman of the Forum dedicated this trip to solely hold biliterate discussion with the Kiribati government, a hope for a positive outcome to bring back Kiribati to the Forum.
“Kiribati is the only one that’s not in the forum now, and I hand over the chairmanship of the Forum in about eight weeks’ time,” Mr Rabuka.
“It’s only right that I try to get them back to the Forum before I hand them over to the Cook Islands.”
