Senior Citizens Use Pension $$ To Buy Food For Street Dwellers

Every month after receiving their pension money from Government, a group of oldies in Lautoka usually set aside part of it to feed needy people on the streets.
The initiative began three years ago when the group, Vunivaivai Senior Citizens Group of Lautoka started its first project to focus on feeding those who have made the streets of Lautoka their home.
The group’s 68-year-old secretary, Freddy Fonmanu, said it was a good start to the year having to gather again after a year and continue their project which was conducted every fortnight.
Mr Fonmanu said the 52-member group usually took out $5 each from their monthly pension funds to purchase food and distribute.
“There are about 22 people on the streets, we have done our counting,” he said.
