Vosarogo Pushes For Relocation Of Nabavatu Villagers

The relocation of Nabavatu Village in Macuata Province will be done this year, says Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Filimoni Vosarogo.
On Wednesday he visited the proposed relocation sites in Dreketi which is a few metres from where the villagers currently reside.
Since Tropical Cyclone Ana hit the village on January 31, 2021, todate 262 people have been living in tents at Assemblies of God Church land after their village was declared a red zone by Government.
“We are going to find the best solution that people are comfortable with,” Mr Vosarogo said.
“We got the state land but that’s within the wider allocation of Dreketi Township.”
He said there were two alternative sites looked at. Some families, who relocated to the church land, have moved back to their village as the relocation plan is taking time.
“Climate change is real and it hits fast,” he said.
“The village is at the edge of Dreketi River which is the deepest river in Fiji.”
