Bainimarama Declines House Offer From PM Rabuka

Leader of Opposition, Voreqe Bainimarama, has declined an offer to live rent-free in Government quarters.
He cited the offer as unconstitutional and legally wrong.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka had offered Mr Bainimarama an accommodation last month.
Mr Bainimarama wrote to the Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu and said this benefit could not be amended without parliamentary approval.
“Accordingly, I advise that I do not intend to receive any benefit as Leader of Opposition unless that benefit has a legal basis to it,” he stated on the letter written on January 26.
