Professor Unaisi Nabobo- Baba created history by being the first indigenous Fijian woman to be appointed professor at a university.

She is married to former politician Tupeni Baba and is currently the Acting Dean of College of Humanities and Education at the Fiji National University.

The story of this Qarani woman from Gau in the Lomaiviti Group is of course a great inspiration to many people.

Unaisi Nabobo-Baba.

She grew up as an ordinary young Fijian girl in her mother’s village in Vugalei, Tailevu where she witnessed the traditional Fijian lifestyle.

She began her educational journey at Kasavu Village school then to Vugalei District School before moving to Ballantine Memorial School in Suva.

Ms Baba’s career spans some 30 years as a secondary school teacher; she also taught at Queen Victoria School.
