Minister for Children, Lynda Tabuya, has issued a stern warning to parents and guardians to stop neglecting their children.

Ms Tabuya emphasised that education should be a top priority for them.

“If we make education compulsory then there is an obligation to send the child to school,” she said.

“If children are not being sent to school, there are also laws that bind parents when it comes to neglect.

“If children are neglected then the social welfare can have the power to take children in.”

Fiji Sun spoke to Susana Naria who was seen feeding a family of beggars who were on the bridge near Terry Walk in Suva.

A mother sat with daughter, under the scorching Tuesday sun, begging for money.

“I went to the drink sellers to get a milkshake for them,” she said.
