At the height of the pandemic, Fiji benefitted from several highly concessional budget support loans from development partners.
This was highlighted by ANZ International Economist, Dr Kishti Sen in his latest ANZ research report.
Dr Sen said the loans helped meet the country’s current account deficit (CAD) shortfall, with the surplus pushing the level of foreign reserves to an all-time high.
However, he added as fiscal policy is expected to be tighter in 2023 and beyond, there will be less need for overseas loans.
