Government spent $430 million in the past two years on social assistance initiatives.
The Ministry of Finance social protection specialist, Shamal Chand, said in moving forward, this would be highly ‘unsustainable’ for a small country such as Fiji, given that the country already spends more than $130 million in social welfare programmes annually.
Mr Chand highlighted this during the opening of Adaptive Social Protection (ASP) Workshop yesterday.
