Bus Driver’s Rape, Sexual Assault Charges Reduced To Defilement
A bus driver in Labasa, who was charged with one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault of a student, had his charges dropped to a count of defilement.
Accused, Shanu Shanesh Chand, appeared before Judge Justice, Daniel Goundar, via Skype at the High Court in Labasa, yesterday. He was represented by Kaushik Kumar from Jiten Reddy Lawyers, who made an application for the matter to be remitted to be transferred to the Magistrates Court in Labasa.
Mr Kumar said the information of the charges filed by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) had a reduced charge from the initial charge counts to only one count of defilement.
