Vio Islanders Partner PIDF To Complete Bamboo Barrier

In an effort to protect Vio Island off Lautoka City from the impacts of climate change, the Pacific Islands Development Forum (PIDF) has completed a bamboo barrier positioned at the island’s shoreline.
The Ministry of Forestry and Fisheries with the assistance of community members are key stakeholders in the use of traditional local technology as a nature-based solution to support conservation efforts.
A total of 3000 mangrove seedlings were planted by the community and the bamboo barrier was installed to ensure the survival of the mangrove saplings.
