Minnows Uruguay upset two-time Olympic sevens rugby champions Fiji 17-14 at the BC Place Stadium in Vancouver, Canada, this afternoon.

The Fiji Airways sponsored- men’s rugby sevens were simply taught an important lesson that they cannot win without possession.

The Ben Gollings coached-side were beaten to the ball during the restarts and were defending most part of the game.

Veteran forward Josua Vakurinabili was a disappointment after shown a yellow card for a dangerous tackle, which allowed Uruguay to score their third try.

Fiji’s tries were scored by Pilipo Bukayaro and Josese Batirerega with Waisea Nacuqu landing the conversions

The Fijians must put their act together and try to win their third pool match against Great Britain on Sunday at 8.42am to stand a chance of qualifying to the Cup quarterfinal.

Men’s results: Australia 36-12 Chile, Great Britain 26-12 Kenya, Fiji 14-17 Uruguay
