Daviqele, Kadavu Lass Makes Parents Proud At Graduation

Leaving her village to pursue further education in Lautoka was a decision Bulou Virisine Bale, 21,had to think twice about.
She did not want to leave her parents behind, but she also wanted to become the first in her family to earn a degree.
The youngest of six siblings applied for a spot at the Fiji National University in 2019, with a dream to become a secondary school teacher one day.
She is from the chiefly village of Daviqele in Nabukelevu, Kadavu.
“I have seen my parents work day and night for all our siblings to be in school and I did not want that to be a waste,” she said.
It certainly did not go to waste after they watched their daughter walk to the graduation stage on Friday, to receive her Bachelor of Education.
They travelled all the way from Kadavu to witness a milestone achievement in the family. It takes about eight hours by boat to travel from Kadavu to Suva.
