Fiji FUTSAL Coach Works On Selecting His Best Players

Digicel Fiji FUTSAL coach Jerry Sam is keeping a clear mind when it comes to selecting his 28-member squad for next month’s international friendlies at the Vodafone Arena in Suva.
Sam, who was at this morning’s national FUTSAL trials in Suva said, he has been keeping an eye on players who have been playing football throughout but only play FUTSAL from time to time. He singled out veteran Labasa midfielder Edwin Sahayam as one of those players.
“These players are well-versed with the basics of football,” Sam told Fiji FA Media.
“We had identified 50 players during the IDC (Interdistrict Championship) and for today’s trials we’ve 4o players. These players have jobs and they are making that sacrifice to be part of the trials.”
He said they are selecting 28 players but will only take 20 to the Oceania Football Confederations FUTSAL playoffs.
For the upcoming international friendlies, Sam said only Vanuatu has been confirmed while on Friday, New Caledonia joined them.
“I’m also told that the Solomon Islands is interested in sending a team over and if that happens it will be good for the Fiji team,” he added.
