Waqainabete: Why I Resigned

Member of Parliament (MP), Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete, took to social media yesterday to announce his resignation from FijiFirst and Parliament.

Dr Waqainabete becomes the fifth Opposition MP to resign following the 2022 General Election.

Other party members who have resigned from Parliament are Opposition Leader Voreqe Bainimarama, former Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, Rosy Akbar and Mahendra Reddy.

“I have written to the general secretary of the FijiFirst party and the honourable Speaker of Parliament sharing my intent to resign from my role as a member of Parliament to pursue life as a private citizen – which they have graciously accepted,” Dr Waqainabete said in a statement on Twitter.
