Government has turned to the public to help raise funds for the knee surgery of nippy Fiji Airways Fijian men’s rugby sevens playmaker Napolioni Bolaca.

This was revealed on Saturday night by the Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru during the 47th Fiji Bitter Marist Sevens tournament at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

Bolaca needs $30,000 for the surgery.

“Through your support, the Ministry of Youth and Sports together with the Fiji Sports Council will jointly fundraise for one of our gold medal Olympian, Napolioni Bolaca,” said Saukuru.

Despite the injury Bolaca played for the Fiji One sevens side during the Marist tournament where they lost 15-5 to Police Blue in the Cup final.

Head coach Ben Gollings said Bolaca needed surgery so he could go through the six months of rehab and be ready for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
