The Fiji National University (FNU) will be conducting its inaugural Career Teachers’ Workshop this month to create further awareness on its programmes, study pathways and application processes.

The University will host workshops at its Central, Western and Northern campuses so that high school career teachers from around the country can attend.

FNU’s Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba said the University is eager to host the teachers on its campuses as they also played a crucial role in helping students decide their programs of study at the university.

“Careers teachers spend a lot of time with their students and would be aware of their interests, strengths and career ambitions. This allows the teachers to help direct students to the most suitable programmes aligned to their interests and capabilities,” Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba said.

She further noted that during the workshops, the teachers would be able to understand better how FNU is able to meet the academic needs of every student as we have various entry levels that students can choose from. “This ranges from our certificate, diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate levels of qualification. Hence, these teachers act as an information bridge between FNU and the students; so we will ensure that teachers are equipped with relevant information regarding FNU offerings and associated policies.”

Professor Nabobo-Baba noted as well that the University remains committed to providing students with an enriching student experience that allows them to develop personally, morally, spiritually, and intellectually. “Career guidance is extremely important.”

The University will conduct the first Careers Teachers’ workshop on March 15 at the Ba campus, followed by the Namaka campus on March 17.

Careers teachers in the Central Division can attend the Nasinu campus workshop on March 22, followed by the final workshop at the Labasa campus on March 24.

Schools in the Maritime zones can also join the virtual session on April 7 from 9am to 11am.

The initiative is part of the FNU’s Strategic Plan 2021–2026 under Pillar 3 on Student Experience, which strives  to enhance access for students across Fiji and the region to high-quality Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) and Higher Education (HE). This is true to FNU’s  dual sector design.

In addition, FNU will be hosting Graduation Ceremonies this week on 9-10 March and 14 March 2023 for those who have successfully completed their studies at the University.
