South Pacific Fertilisers Ltd’s chief financial officer, Kaushik Maharaj says prior consultation was not carried out over a report damning the use of fertiliser in the sugar cane sector.
Fiji’s sugar industry could collapse if recommendations about carbon footprint and green harvesting are implemented.
South Pacific Fertilisers Ltd (SPFL) said the sole reliance on bio compost would negatively impact the local sugar sector.
His comment comes on the heels of a Government warning over the dangers of continued use of chemical fertiliser.
