Uncle Jailed For Raping Niece During Funeral Visit
Sexual exploitation of children within their domestic environment has become a social menace. The social enigma of abusing children for sexual gratification must be addressed promptly and effectively.
These were the words of High Court Judge Justice Thushara Rajasinghe while sentencing a man who sexually molested and raped his niece in 2020 during a funeral.
He has been jailed for 15 years with a non-parole period of 13 years.
The court considered the remand period of seven months and 20 days as part of the sentence served and ordered the remaining period to be served by the offender to be 14 years and four months with a non-parole period of 12 years and four months.
