National athletics coach Albert Miller said they have yet to have the national trials and by then prospects will be competing.
“The cancellation of the event on Friday will not affect Team Fiji’s chance to have an athlete for the event for the Pacific Games,” Miller said.
“This is just the national championships, it is not the trials. We are yet to have the trials,” he said.
The national trials are scheduled for July, August and September.
“The athlete that was supposed to take part hurt his groin last week,” he said.
“He is a first time hurdler. He has been looked after so
This year’s Easter championship also included the para athletics and Special Olympics athletes.
“It’s always good to be inclusive and it’s better for them because they get to be exposed to the atmosphere,” he said.
“This is an opportunity to look at upcoming talent and hopefully add them into the national squad leading up to the Pacific Games.”
Athletes that competed over the two days included youths, open apart from the para and special athletes.
