Leader of Opposition Inia Seruiratu says Govern­ment should thank the FijiFirst for allowing it to fund some of its promises made in the lead-up to the 2022 General Elec­tion.

For instance, the $10million payout out to the University of the South Pacific (USP), he said.

On Friday he explained why the FijiFirst government with­held funds to USP Vice-chancel­lor Professor Pal Ahluwalia in 2021, was deported with his wife after the FijiFirst government claimed they breached Section 13 of the Immigration Act.

“We should be thankful to the FijiFirst government because that is part of the 2022-2023 Budget allocation.

Government position on USP is a matter of principle because as a key player and also as a big contributor of funding,” he said.
