Sydney Twins Here For Fijian Drua

Sydney twins, Tariq and Khalid Khan are Fijian Drua fans to the bone.
The Lautoka-born brothers, who now reside in Sydney, Australia, showed their unwavering support for the Swire Shipping sponsored- Drua side by being part of the vocal crowd at Churchill Park last Saturday.
Although the Fijian Drua team went down to the Auckland Blues 30-14 in their Shop and Save Super Rugby Pacific clash, the pair said they were die-hard fans and will continue to support the team.
They travelled down from Sydney last week to back the team and leave for Sydney today to return to work.
Khalid is a dentist by profession and Tariq is a lawyer.
The 38-year-old twins said their passion for the game and support for the Fijian Drua have been there from when the Drua first played in Australia.
“We are incredibly loyal fans of the Drua and love Fiji rugby having built this passion from when we were in Fiji and supported our sevens team,” Khalid said.
“It’s been a while since they introduced the Drua team into the super rugby competition and we know there will come a day when they will win the competition.
“We watched all Drua’s games at Leichhardt Oval in Sydney and decided to make this special trip down to support them in their match against the Auckland Blues.”
Tariq said the Fijian flair is what has made Super Rugby interesting and that is why they draw big crowds whether they play here or in Australia or New Zealand.
“It’s different from the structured rugby that overseas teams play – the culture and skill level is different and that is what draws the crowds,” Tariq said.
Khalid said Churchill Park was a great venue where the spectators were closer to the action which made the game more intimate.
“The noise was so loud that you couldn’t hear the referee’s whistle,” he said.
The twins said they would continue to come back and support the Drua team when they played in Lautoka as it was closer to home.
“We just love the Fijian Drua side,” the pair said.
