Westpac Promotes Financial Literacy Training To Its Customers And Through Collaboration

Westpac is committed to providing our customers and corporate clients financial literacy services but we also see the benefit in collaborating and supporting organisations such as Women Entrepreneurs Business Council (WEBC).
Westpac Senior Manager and WEBC chair, Eseta Nadakuitavuki said, “WEBC has definitely evolved since its establishment in 2013 with the main objective changing from empowering women to move out of the informal sector to now encouraging more women to take up senior leadership roles.
“Collaborating with financial institutions like Westpac has only further strengthened our course and allowed us to help more women.”
Westpac Chief Executive, Shane Smith said, “Financial literacy trainings we offer can be tailored to suit our customers but we can’t stop there.
“We know the power of collaboration and are also determined to support other institutions that need the training for their members as well.
“The goal is to upskill individuals and organisations and give them the knowledge they need to succeed and our team does a great job at that.”
In 2020, Dinsel-Marie McGowan signed up for one of Westpac’s financial literacy trainings to aid her with her budding business and says it was a worthwhile investment of her time.
“I had very little knowledge of the financial side of things but attending this workshop gave me a better understanding of how to make smart decisions with money, how to save and budget and allowed me the chance tocreate my business goals.
“I’m proud to say that my business is debt-free and if I can make it happen, anyone can,” Dinsel-Marie explains.
Michelle Singh is another recipient of the Westpac financial literacy training and has used the knowledge she gained to better her mother & daughter owner business – Marama Creations – that sell homemade jewellery.
“I had this small business running for quite a while but never really took managing the finances seriously.
“The workshop was before the pandemic and it really taught me how to save and run the business more proficiently.
“It was this small business that was actually doing so well after I implemented what I had learnt at the workshop – just small useful tips that made a huge difference and helped see me through during COVID. So, I was so thankful for that experience.”
