Members of the Bose Levu Vaka Turaga, also known as the Great Council of Chiefs (GCC), do not need to be traditionally installed to become a rep in the upcoming meeting.
This was clarified by the Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Ifereimi Vasu, when asked about the prerequisite to become a member.
In the past, members in the GCC were traditionally restricted to those who had chiefly titles or were tribal leaders.
The GCC meeting will reconvene for the first time after 11 years on Bau Island from May 23 to 25.
