Nadi Wants 4 Ba Province GCC Representatives

The vanua o Navatulevu has submitted suggestions to the Great Council of Chiefs consultation review team in Nadi last week.
Samuela Tuidraki, the spokesperson of the Navatulevu, Na Momo na Tui Nadi, Ratu Vuniani Navuniuci had personally delivered the list to the team.
The Tui Nadi exercises chiefly authority over the sub districts of Nadi Narewa, Nakavu, Namotomoto, Navoci, and Dratabu villages and Sikituru, Moala, Yavunsania and Korovuto villages.
The first suggestion made was to have four representatives from Ba Province to be part of the GCC.
“There should be four reps from the Yasana o Ba to the GCC. The reason was because the province is the heartbeat of Fiji’s economy and it had contributed more to the running of this country,” he said.
“Secondly members of the GCC are to be iTaukei and chiefly leaders in their respective vanua and officially registered.
“Third on the list was for GCC to be independent and not be part of the government to be politicised.”
“The fourth is for matured and intellectual Christian inter-denominational heads to be members of the GCC to help in spiritual guidance.”
Mr Tuidraki added that the director and board members of the iTaukei Land Trust Board must be elected by the GCC.
“Members of the board should be landowners and those who have leased land,” he said.
“The appointment of the President of Fiji and the Assistant President should be elected by the GCC.”
