Police Hunt For Driver Of Taveuni Accident

The driver who allegedly caused the death of a man, 53, on April 15 at Taveuni Island is yet to be charged

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the investigators were still trying to establish the identity of the driver.

“The vehicle was abandoned after the accident and two suspects have been identified,” Ms Naisoro said.

“One has been interviewed and released while investigation continues.”

She said the investigation file would be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution for further advice on the investigation

In a separate fatal accident which happened on the island the next day, April 16, the driver, a policeman has been charged with three counts of dangerous driving, dangerous driving causing death.

Selai Dileba, 34, died after the vehicle she was travelling in with five passengers veered off the road and hit a post.

Alipate Nakarawa appeared at Taveuni Magistrate Court on April 21 and has been released on bail.

The case was adjourned for mention on July 18.
