RSL Operator Seeks Help

A Rural Service Licence (RSL) school transport provider from Karoko Village in Tunuloa, Cakaudrove, has requested Government to help his pending payment for services this year.
Viliame Vakacamena, operates two RSL vehicles in the district to transport school students to Tunuloa Primary School and Napuka Secondary School.
Mr Vakacamena told Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka and relevant government officials of his concern during the talanoa session at Koroivonu Village in Tunuloa, Cakaudrove, on Thursday.
The struggles of sustaining his transport business without timely payments is causing constraints for his service delivery, he said.
He has not been paid during this year’s new school term which was 13 weeks.
“Streamlinning the process of payment to service providers must be taken seriously and the Ministry of Education should facilitate this in a timely manner,” Mr Vakacamena said.
“$300 is spent weekly on fuel which amounts to $1200 per month. Not one cent came through these weeks. I am worried for the ones (other service providers), who are hire-purchasing their vehicles.
