Ari Taniguchi’s Judicial Review Case Hearing Date To Be Fixed Next Month

The leave to apply for a Judicial Review case filed by Ari Taniguchi, the wife of former National Federation Party (NFP) provisional candidate, Hiroshi Taniguchi, will be called next month to fix a hearing date on the application of security costs.
The matter was called before Acting Chief Justice Salesi Temo at the High Court in Suva on Friday.
Taniguchi filed a case against the Director of Public Prosecutions and the Attorney-General.
Minister for Finance and NFP party leader Biman Prasad has been added as an interested party in the matter. Prasad was represented by lawyer Ritesh Singh.
Taniguchi was presented by lawyer Shailend Krishna while the DPP was represented by Vishal Chauhan from the AG’s Office.
Mr Krishna told the court that his client was not agreeing to the section for costs and sought 42 days to file affidavit in opposition.
He said the length of time was because he would have to send the documents to Japan where his client resided for the affidavit to be executed and sent back to Fiji.
Mr Chauhan and Mr Singh informed the court that they did not have any objection to the same and sought time to file their responses.
Mr Krishna has been given time until June 30 to file and serve affidavit in opposition while Mr Chauhan and Mr Singh are given time until July 14 to file and serve their responses.
The matter will be called for mention to fix a hearing date on the application for security for costs on July 14.
