Cakaudrove Village In Dire Need Of Government Assistance

One of the villages in Cakaudrove that was badly affected by Tropical Cyclone Ana in 2021 urgently needs Government assistance.
Tabia Village headman Jovesa Rokuta said because of natural disasters, the banks of the river beside their village had gradually been washed away.
He said their village which had 20 homes and a population of 85, would get flooded during heavy rain spells.
“Even though we are out of the hurricane season, a day’s heavy rainfall costs us a lot of damage,” Mr Rokuta said.
“We urgently need Government to help us build a river bank wall so that we can save our land and people.”
He said relocation plans would not be the best solution for them.
Commissioner Northern Uraia Rainima, who accompanied Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka to a talanoa session at Koronatoga, Cakaudrove on May 13, assured Mr Rokuta that they would look into their problem.
Mr Rainima advised the Ministry of Waterways senior technical officer Northern Sanjay Narayan to find out if some form of help can be provided.
Mr Narayan said they had to conduct investigations, survey and design of a nature-based riverwall.
