Some Relief For Nadi Defaulting Ratepayers

All ratepayers who have arrears on their rates can take advantage of this opportunity
Defaulting ratepayers in Nadi can breathe a sigh of relief after Cabinet approved an amnesty period.
The Minister for Housing and Local Government, Maciu Katamotu Nalumisa, revealed this during the ground-breaking ceremony of the Nadi Town Council’s (Viti Mini Bus Base) at Raniga St yesterday.
“Ratepayers who clear the principal rates before July 31, 2023, will be entitled for waiver of interests that may have accumulated on your defaulting rates,” the minister said.
However, he remined the ratepayers on the importance of paying their rates.
“To make your towns and cities sustainable and resilient, it is important that all ratepayers contribute by paying their rates,” he said.
“All ratepayers who have arrears on their rates can take advantage of this opportunity.
“The local government has a role to make sure our cities and towns have the ability, capability, and resources to handle the problems caused by urbanisation, which has emerged as a critical global concern.”
Revenue generated from this source is used by councils to ensure essential services and enhance its operations like beautifying the cities and towns and capital development.
