The Nadroga/Navosa Saints netball team travelled more than five hours from their villages to be in Suva for the Super League Men’s Championship at the Vodafone Arena.

Speaking to SUNsports, Nadroga/Navosa Saints Manageress Sarah Nabalarua said due to the challenges the team is represented with nine players and not the required 12.

“We have players from Vatumali, Keyasi and Korolevu right in the interior of Navosa. They’ve had travel on the dusty road to get to Sigatoka then catch another bus to get to Suva for the men’s netball championship,” Nabalarua said.

The Nadroga/Navosa team is camping at Draiba Primary School.

“Preparation wise, it has been difficult. Some players made it and some couldn’t. We just have to make do with the players we have now.”

The team consists of youths are in men’s championship for the love of netball.

“Most of them are farmers and in order for them to come down, they have had to sell root crops and sell their catch (fishing),” she said.

Nabalarua is hopeful families and friends of the Nadroga association would come down in numbers to support the team.

“I’m grateful that the University of the South Pacific Nadroga students have donated water and fruits to the team.”

The side was thrashed 48-3 by Cakaudrove, Bua Macuata.

“The team has decided to reshuffle their position again after seeing their weaknesses in the first round. We need to improve in communication on the court in the next match,” she said.

“I don’t expect them to win because I know what they’ve gone through but wherever they achieve, I will be happy because they will play their hearts out.”
