Leslie Alfred Michael Simmons Junior, 24, of Labasa was awarded the Baton of Honour during the Fiji Police Force batch 65 passing-out parade at the Nasova Police Grounds in Suva on Friday.

Constable Simmons has attained a Bachelor’s degree in Law and Politics and was among 184 Police recruits from Fiji, Nauru and Tuvalu during the parade.

He stood proud for himself and his family when receiving the award which recognised the efforts and sacrifices he put into training in the past 16 weeks.

“I feel proud and honoured. I am thankful to the Lord for guiding me through the course.

“I feel appreciated and respected by the academy and recognised for all the efforts that I put in,” Constable Simmons said.

“I joined the Fiji Police Force because I was looking for a better purpose in life. It was a recurring question to me that I was meant for something greater. This is what I was meant to do.”

He said as a Police constable, he would put his emotions aside when on duty.

“There are some values in the force and one is empathy. I choose to empathise instead of sympathise so I don’t let my emotions get in the way when I make decisions out on the field,” Constable Simmons said.
