Tragedy On Mothers Day
As churches around the country celebrated Mother’s Day yesterday, a day meant to honour and appreciate mothers for their love and sacrifices, tragedy struck families of three women at the weekend.
On Saturday, a mother of four became a victim of a fatal road accident at Nabila Village, Nadroga. She was returning home from her Mother’s Day shopping. The loss has left her children and family in grief.
In Labasa, a woman has died, allegedly murdered by her husband in Qeledamu, on Saturday night.
In Lautoka, a woman is admitted at the Lautoka Hospital; the partner allegedly stabbed her, following an argument yesterday morning.
These distressing incidents have struck a chord within the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre, prompting Coordinator Shamima Ali to speak out against the pervasive culture of violence against women and girls.
