Boat Operators Experience Cash Boom
Business is thriving for boat operators at Bau Landing in Tailevu Province, who are benefiting from the Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) meeting.
The cost of a boat journey from the main landing (Viti Levu) to Bau Island is $10.
An operator taking advantage of the meet is Inoke Bakoso from Viwa Village.
On Monday, Mr Bakoso managed to earn $250, a significant increase compared to his usual daily earnings.
“In a normal day, I earn around $50 per day. However, the GCC meeting brought a surge in demand and I earned $250 on Monday alone,” he said.
“These earnings are deposited into the village bank account, which is utilised for the benefit of the students or to cover boat and engine repair or replacement costs.
