Democratisation Of Institutions Is Key, Says Singh
Agni Deo Singh, the Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations said the ongoing process of democratizing institutions, particularly municipal councils was underway.
He was speaking during the Educators for Climate Justice and Just Transition Conference at the Tanoa Waterfront Hotel in Lautoka on Tuesday.
Mr Singh highlighted the dissolution of municipal elected councils and the decentralization of power to the people. He said that various organizations serving the local government level would now be elected, allowing for greater inclusion of the people in decision-making processes.
The minister expressed his commitment to restoring trade union rights and reviewing Fiji’s labour laws to ensure compliance with fundamental conventions outlined by the International Labour Organization (ILO).
