Electrician Charged With Attempted Murder, Arson, Refused Bail

An electrician facing charges of attempted murder, arson and damaging property was refused bail by the Lautoka Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Munesh Goundar, 44, on the morning of May 21 in Saweni, Lautoka allegedly stabbed his 37-year-old defacto partner after a drinking party.
He also allegedly set fire to the house where the victim was staying and fled with his two sons aged two and five years old leaving the victim behind.
However, he was arrested at Field 4 in Lautoka on the same day of the incident.
The matter was heard before Magistrate Sekonaia Vodokisolomone and Goundar represented himself in court while Assistant Superintendent of Police Mohammed Harif appeared for prosecution.
Due to the seriousness of Goundar’s charges, the prosecution objected to bail.
The ASP Harif said if granted bail, Goundar was likely to skip bail and interfere with prosecution witnesses.
Magistrate Vodokisolomone refused bail for Goundar and remanded him in custody.
He also transferred the matter to the High Court in Lautoka to be called on June 6.
