Taxi Driver Charged With Attempted Murder Granted Bail

A Labasa taxi driver accused of allegedly attempting to kill his girlfriend was granted bail by the High Court in Labasa last Friday.
Sanjeshwar Chand, 41, represented by Jiten Reddy Lawyers in Labasa, appeared before Judge Justice Usaia Ratuvili for his bail hearing application.
Chand is charged with one count of attempted murder.
It is alleged that Chand tried to kill the complainant using a knife after an argument broke out between the couple at Wailevu in Labasa, on December 12, 2022.
Justice Ratuvili granted bail to Chand on strict bail conditions and warned him of the interim Domestic Violence Restraining Order in place.
The two sureties were told to deposit $2,000 cash bail bond and for the accused to stay with them in Lautoka.
Chand is ordered to report at Lautoka Police Station every Saturday from 6am to 6pm and appear at the High Court in Labasa on all his court dates.
The court issued a stop departure order and Chand was ordered not to apply for a new passport, not to interfere with state witnesses and not to reoffend.
The case has been adjourned to July 4 for mention.
