A school teacher of 14 years, who quit his job to pursue farming on a full time commercial basis, has urged others to follow suit.

Nilesh Kumar is a full time beekeeper, who dabbles in a side project in pineapple farming.

He is president of Fiji Beekeepers Association.

“Teaching was my passion,” he said.

“I just moved from the classroom to the farm to teach farmers about beekeeping.”

Mr Kumar comes from a farming background.

“The passion of doing this was not about money, but about feeding people with honey, which we all know as a health contributor to our well-being,” he said.

“Being on the farm releases a lot of stress.”

He resides in Ba with his family.

The father of two said bee farming was financially rewarding.

Mr Kumar also exports honey.

“If you work hard enough, there is a good amount of money in it for you,” he said.
