GCC Membership Inconclusive, Women Issues Premature

Concerns around women representation on the Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) may be premature at this stage, as work by the GCC Review Team is incomplete, said Review Committee member Adi Eci Nabalarua.
“There’s a range of opinions from the different consultations we’ve had. Some are very specific and say that women should be represented, and there are others who say otherwise.
“So what we do now is we’ll just go and collect as much as we can. Let them speak their minds and then we’ll come and sift through the ideas and try to balance it together,” said Adi Eci .
“We have yet to complete our work as we have only covered nine out of the 14 provinces so it’s all inconclusive at this stage. After the 14 provinces, we’ll then do open consultations with other members of the public, other groups such as university students and some Indo-Fijian groups,” she said
