Local Woman Makes Contribution At UK Summit
Nukubati Island, off the north coast of Vanua Levu.

Nukubati Great Sea Reef Resort manager Lara Meliki Vokai will be speaking at the International Women in Travel and Tourism Forum in the United Kingdom on June 22.

It will be held at Google headquarters in Pancras Square, London.

“We have been invited to share our story on climate and their sustainability initiative,” she said..

She was referred to the organisers through London-based Tourism Fiji regional director Jane West who knows Ms Vokai for her post-TC Yasa work in the community.

“Nukubati belongs to a community, the Duavata Sustainable Tourism Collective, a group of like-minded tourism operators in Fiji who believe that tourism should advance culture, heritage, and environment,” Ms Vokai said.

They were the first facilitators for the conservation youth programme, hosted during the COVID-19 pandemic, where 40 youth members from the coastal district in Macuata were trained.

It’s sister organisation, Nukubati Community Foundation, has donated and built classrooms, and installed a solar power system in a nearby school.

“It will not only be my story, but the women and my community impacted by the climate crisis,” she said.

The event is sponsored by Intrepid, Google, WeTravel, Expedia group, TourRadar, Los Cabos, Mag, Zetter, and Visit Malta.
