Ra GCC Reps Support Old Land Lease Funding Distribution System

Ra Province representatives expressed their satisfaction with the endorsement of the old lease distribution discussed at the Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) meeting on Wednesday.
Tui Navatu, Ratu Akuila Kubou, who is one of the three representatives from Ra said that the establishment of a special fund, with funding sourced from a per centage of the TLTB poundage and lease money, as a benefit to the iTaukei commoners.
“During the meeting, everyone agreed to endorse the old lease distribution and the creation of a special fund. This will be advantageous to all landowners in Fiji,” Ratu Akuila said.
“The old lease distribution ensured that the yavusa, mataqali, and the village all benefited. The equitable distribution made the younger generation feel equal to the liuliu-ni-yavusa and the liuliu-ni-mataqali. It is crucial to maintain respect within the yavusa or mataqali.”
Turaga na Tui Noco, Ratu Aca Vulaidausiga who shared the same sentiment emphasised the benefits of the special fund for future generations and the vanua.
“The establishment of a special fund will greatly benefit those with leased lands. It is essential to always consider the future of our children when making decisions, and this is a decision that will benefit them,” Ratu Aca said.
He added the issue of lease distribution money garnered diverse opinions among many individuals.
