Relocation efforts for the villagers of Nabavatu in Dreketi, Macuata Province, are progressing with a permanent relocation site identified.

Commissioner Northern Uraia Rainima confirmed this during an interview in Vunikawakawa Settlement, Labasa.

The site is Nadoiviri in Dreketi, situated between the temporary site and the old village site of Nabavatu.

Following the impact of Tropical Cyclone Ana on January 31, 2021, 262 people have been living in tents at the Assemblies of God (AOG) Church compound in Savadrua.

Nabavatu Village was designated as a red zone by the Government, prompting the search for a suitable relocation site.

The Ministry of iTaukei Affairs has declared the new village boundary, and discussions with the Ministry of Waterways are underway regarding mitigation efforts for the selected site.

Minister Filomoni Vosarogo has visited the site and also the Crown Princess of Denmark, Mary Elizabeth, visited the temporary site.
