Selfless, Obedient Peni

As his peers enjoyed the festive atmosphere, he was helping the men and women catering to the needs of the guests on the island.
Among the celebration and hype at the Great Council of Chiefs (GCC) meeting on Bau Island, a 15-year-old boy was quietly offering his assistance behind the scenes.
If one visited the Tunitoga’s residence known as ‘Vunivau ‘, they would find Peni Rawaiwai tirelessly assisting the women with meat preparation, aiding the men with the traditional lovo cooking or transporting pigs to be slaughtered.
While his peers enjoyed themselves, Peni always found a way to support his grandmother, Vani Kasanikula.
His story is profoundly moving as he expressed his gratitude to his grandmother for constantly encouraging him to give his best without expecting anything in return.
“I was thrilled when my grandmother told me to get ready because we were going to Bau for the GCC meeting. She wanted us to assist in any way we could,” Peni said.
