Rise Through Risks

Serial entrepreneur, Virendra Chand, would probably faint from boredom if he didn’t take risks that have led to his continued glowing success.
From retailing fish at a small outlet in Nasinu, he has gone on to establish two restaurants, a liquor bar, kava bar and conference facilities.
Krazy Bites – famous for its crispy french fries and chicken – operates out of Pilling Road in Nasinu, while The Tasty Trails at Nasese is popular for seafood and Indian cuisine.
Mr Chand puts his university qualification to good use by first registering his business, Island Seafood Investment, under which other enterprises sprouted.
He juggles between balancing the books and helping his wife in the restaurant kitchen.
Humble beginning
Mr Chand spent seven years working at a prominent supermarket before he opened the fish shop.
“It was a big risk, but my wife and I were ready for the challenges,” he said.
“We started with only one freezer but had 20 freezers, six months into operation.
The couple often bought fish from Savusavu and Labasa, to retail to businesses in the Western Division.
“The fish shop operated for two years. We were forced to close the shop because of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Mr Chand said.
Mr Chand took on another risk of opening a restaurant when economic activities were declining.
“I was worried about the future of the country because the general election was around the corner, it may not be in our favour,” he said.
Under the economic strain of the COVID-19 pandemic, Krazy Bites was launched.
